Meta descriptions are HTML attributes that usually explain the contents of the web page in search results pages (SERPs), where they’re commonly used as preview snippets.

Google told as far back as 2009 that meta descriptions and meta keywords have no bearing on search rankings. That doesn’t mean that these descriptions aren’t super important for SEO. In fact, when you use a well crafted, relevant, compelling meta description with a strong call to action, you stand a way better chance of winning the click. That’s right! Even if you’re not found in position one.
Once again it’s ALL ABOUT CONVERSION and Google agrees that click through rate is currently one of the most important ranking factors. So take a look at your meta descriptions. I bet you will find room for improvement and in turn, get more visitors.
